Truth or Consequences!

If you have been around as long as I have you would recognize my title to this piece as the name of an old radio program in 1950. Here’s that story.  The city changed its name from Hot Springs to Truth or Consequences as the result of a contest on the radio program Truth or Consequences. In March 1950, Ralph Edwards, the host of the NBC Radio quiz show, announced that he would air the program on its 10th anniversary from the first town that renamed itself after the show. In a special election on March 31, 1950, residents of Hot Springs voted 1294 to 295 to change the town’s name to Truth or Consequences, and the program was broadcast there the following evening. The city still celebrates it as a Fiesta and elects a Miss Fiesta. The Fiesta also features a dance in Ralph Edwards Park.

Hold on, this is only my introduction: The real point of my story is that in these “Modern” times it seems that the truth is hard to find; and without significant “Consequences”!

For instance, when I googled “Trump and the Iran War” I saw only negative comments about this president who works tirelessly to Make America Great Again while giving his $400,000 a year salary to charity!

The Punditry was dominated by conservatives such as, Media Matters, and Ben Shapiro, whose story was titled, oddly enough, “Trump to Iran: Surrender or face the ‘consequences’”! Point Made!

Most writers now take the advice of **John Paul Jones “Damn the Truth! Full Speed Ahead!”!

**John Paul Jones: Mobile Bay was a naval battle of the American Civil War, which held the last Confederate port in the Gulf of Mexico. (Now Gulf of America) It is claimed that he gave the order: “Damn the torpedoes, full speed ahead,” which became a memorable quote in naval history. See pic below:
