Remember Pearl Harbor – Dec. 7, 1941
By Hal Mitchell – The Bard of Hearthstone Hills
I was only eight when Japan bombed Pearl Harbor, killing 2,404 military personnel and I remember. The US pacific naval fleet, including, The USS Arizona, was obliterated that day “Which will live in infamy” Roosevelt.
Pres. Roosevelt immediately declared war on Japan and that war ended on Aug 15, 1945, when Japan surrendered. It was just 93 days short of 4 years.
Most sources say that American casualties were the following: 400,000 killed (including 6,000 merchant marine civilians) 600,000 Wounded. This was a very bloody war.
Pres. Roosevelt (Dem) died on Apr. 12, 1945, approximately 4 months before Japan surrendered. His VP, Harry Truman, (Dem) replaced him and was the one who made the fateful decision to drop two atomic bombs on Japan to force them to surrender. One bomb was dropped on Hiroshima on Aug 6, 1945, and another was dropped on Nagasaki on Aug. 9, 1945, to force the surrender. There were approximately150,000 to 250,000 Japanese civilians killed in these two bombings. It is estimated that from 400,000 to 1,000,000 lives were saved because the war stopped when it did!
My comments: Approx. 300,000 American military personnel were killed in America’s war with Japan. However, approx. 240,000 Americans died in the last 4 years from drug overdoses coming from Venezuela. Does anybody think that Venezuelan Narco Terrorists who may have survived our first bombing of their drug filled boats would have gone back to Venezuela and repented from being terrorist? Nobody thinks that! In the Japanese war America dropped a second bomb to save lives and Trump’s War Dept did the same thing! Think about it!
