The First Thanksgiving
This story was taken from one told by Chris Salcedo of Newsmax TV. He, in turn, received it from the all-time king of talk radio, my favorite, Rush Limbaugh. AKA, El Rushbo. Here it is:
The Pilgrims had endured a cold and hungry winter in their first year in “The New World” in 1621. After that, they prospered, and the Plymouth Colonists and the Native American Wampanoag people shared a harvest feast.
Liberal historians will tell you that the first Thanksgiving was to thank the Wampanoags for their help in planting corn, etc. This is not true. The first Thanksgiving was held to thank God for his provision and guidance in the “New World”.
However, before that, William Bradford, their leader, set up a socialist system (More like Communism) where everybody would receive the same monetary return for his labor no matter how much or how little he worked. Bradford soon discovered that those who were lazy would do little work because there was no incentive to work.
After this discovery, he set up a new system (Capitalism) where each family was given a plot of ground where he could plant as much or as little as he wanted and therefore, he would reap according to how much he sowed and tilled. Then, everybody prospered! That’s when they had an abundance and celebrated with roasted wild turkeys and invited the Wampanoags to join them.
Later, Pres. George Washington declared that Thursday, Nov. 26, 1789, as a day of public thanksgiving and prayer! That’s how it became an official American holiday.
