The “To Be” God
By Hal Mitchell – 7/1/2023
When I was a sophomore in high school I had an excellent English Teacher and her specialty was grammar. Her name was Mrs. Harriet Sorrels. Among other things, she taught us how to conjugate the verb “To Be”. She was the best teacher I ever had. I have even published a detailed story about her on my website www.PatriotsOnPurpose.com at “The Bard’s” blog; segments section. However, this article is not about Mrs. Sorrels. It is about God!
So, you may ask, what do you mean when you say that God is the “To Be God?” Well, if you analyze the verb “To Be” you will find that it is the most used verb in the English language. It means “To exist” So God is The “To Be” God because He exists.
When Moses asked God “Who shall I say sent me?” referring to the question he was sure Pharaoh was going to ask him when he returned, God replied “Tell him ‘I am’ sent me”. “I Am” is a form of the verb “To Be” so God was saying to Moses in effect, that all Pharaoh needs to know is that I exist. That was Pharaoh’s main problem and it’s also the main problem many people have today.
You see, Pharaoh believed in many gods but he didn’t believe that Moses’ God was real. However, Pharaoh was about to see more manifestations of Moses’ God than any man on Earth. His unbelief was so strong that it required God to do such great miracles by the hand of Moses that they (The Miracles) nearly destroyed the most powerful nation on Earth, Egypt.
I have a list of 101 healing scriptures that I copied from the ministry of Pastor Keith Moore. I read them all everyday and one of the most often quoted scriptures I read starts with: “I AM”. In fact, the very first scripture on my list is: “I am the Lord that heals you” from Exodus 15:26. There are a total of seven “I AM’s” on this list followed by at least that many “I Will’s”. God is a (the good) God.
What’s more revealing about the “To Be” God is that in the Bible there are 719 verses that start with “I AM”. (Verified through Google) So now there should be zero doubt in anybody’s mind that God exists, which means He is the “To Be” God.
Not only does God exist but His Word “Is Truth” not just “A truth” but “The Truth”; the ultimate Truth which challenges every other word that is being promoted by mankind as truth. John 17:17 – (KJV) Jesus is speaking. Sanctify them (Or make them holy) through thy truth: Thy Word is Truth. Jesus is also “The Word. See below from the Gospel of John:
[1] In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. [2] The same was in the beginning with God. [3] All things were made by him; and without him was not anything made that was made. VS 14 – And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.
So rather than focusing on Mrs. Sorrels’ assignment of conjugating the verb “To Be” let’s focus upon the attributes of God, the “To Be” God.
In Genesis 1, the Bible says: 1In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the deep. (Waters) 3And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. (In Hebrew: “Light Be, and Light Was”) 4And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.
The verses after verses 7 through 31, describe God’s method of creating. (By Speaking) Here is the time sequence of God’s creating:
Verse 3; Light (First Day)
Verse 4 & 9, 10; Heaven, Dry Land, & Seas; It was Good (2nd Day)
Verse 11; Grass & Trees (Third Day)
Verse 16; Great Lights – Sun & Moon; It was Good (Fourth Day)
Verse 20, 21 & 22; Whales & Birds: It was Good (Fifth Day)
Verse 24, 25; Cattle plus Creeping Things (Sixth Day)
Verse 27; Man, in God’s image; Male & Female (Sixth Day)
Verse 31; God saw His Creation and said “It is Very Good!” (He saw or observed it by standing back with His hands on His hips looking approvingly at his finished work – Also Sixth Day)
In conclusion: God is Love! (See 1 John 4:8) God is also the ultimate Creator! In the Gospel of John 1:1 it says that “The Word or God created everything that was created and nothing was created that was not created by Him”. Then in verse 14 it says: And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth!
